About Me

So let’s introduce ourselves.

My name is Kirsty. I’m a MA (Hons) English Literature and History graduate of the University of Edinburgh, where I also stuck around to fumble my way through a MSc in Creative Writing.

I’m an enthusiastic amateur when it comes to matters linguistic, and my advice should be taken with a pinch of salt!

I guess, technically, you can refer to me as a “prize winning” Scots writer, as I won the 2020 Sloan Prize for Scots Prose from the University of Edinburgh, with my story Whit Wis Stolen Fae The Big Man. I’m currently seeking a publication for that particular piece of work, so sadly I can’t offer it as proof of prowess. You’ll just have to trust me.

My flash fiction Crossing The Bridge featured in the 2019 Blether anthology, published by Scottish Book Trust.

If you don’t find me glued to my computer, I might be outside wandering around in the wild, taking photos of old buildings, perusing the local charity shop for my next read, or lying down in a field, staring into the abyss.

What I do

Write

I’ve dabbled with many genres — historical fiction, contemporary, horror, parody. But I tend to drift back to Scotland, even in fiction.

Edit

I now work as a full-time sub-editor for The People’s Friend, a national magazine. It keeps me out of mischief, if nothing else!

Explore

I love getting out and about in the wild. Scotland is a wild and incredible country full of inspiration and stories waiting to be discovered.

But wait, I have a Bookstagram!
